7 tips for Traveling with Infants or Toddlers

Traveling can be very hectic, especially if you are traveling with an infant or toddler.  Whether you're traveling in a vehicle or by airplane, the unfamiliar and restricted environment introduces new challenges that can overwhelm and frustrate everyone.  We have put together a list of tips that may help you reduce the stress and arrive at your Holiday destination with smiles on your face!

  1. Pack several small novel toys and books that are NEW to your child.  Consider doing a toy swap with a friend so you can avoid the extra expense and both families can benefit from discovering "new" toys.
  2. Pack low-mess snacks - Pureed foods sold in a tube are great for travel - older infants and toddlers can avoid the spoon by sucking the food right out of the tube!!  Small self-serve cups filled with animal crackers or gold fish will not only fill their bellies, but it will also help keep an older infant and toddler occupied as they dig out their treats.
  3. TECHNOLOGY is a lifesaver!! There is no shame in allowing your children to be entertained with a favorite movie or a new app on your mobile device.  It can make a huge difference in a long drive or flight!
  4. Dress your Infant for easy diaper changes.   A great idea is to use a onesie with leggings - this way you can completely avoid removing socks shoes and pants to access the diaper area.
  5. Consider wearing your baby - strollers are convenient, but using a carrier will often allow a longer period of undisturbed sleep time for your infant.  If you are boarding an airplane, you will need to make sure you are not wearing a coat under the carrier - otherwise you will be asked to remove the coat - which means removing the carrier.  Always check with your airline for any rules or restrictions regarding infant travel.
  6. If you are traveling on an airline that has open-seating, choose seats near other families.  You will be surrounded by sympathetic people that are in similar situations, which will ease your stress and theirs!!
  7. Choose a Hotel with a free breakfast.  Typically, hotels provide many great breakfast options for small children.  You can usually find some fruit, dry cereal, juice and yogurt - while others might provide waffles, biscuits and eggs.
We hope that these tips will help make your holiday traveling stress free and full of giggles and smiles.  The entire team wishes everyone safe travels and Happy Holidays!!

Happy Holidays to all of our friends, family and business partners throughout the Lake area!!
