7 Great Tips to Care for your Car in the Winter

Winter weather has officially arrived and you may find that your car needs a little extra TLC.  The Certified Service Technician at Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC can help you make sure your car is in the best shape possible to handle the winter weather conditions.  We offer a full range of services that will review your vehicles performance from top to bottom.

Once your vehicle has been reviewed, there are things you can do to make your winter driving experience easier.  Check out these 7 great tips that won't hurt your pocket book and will help you navigate the icy roads.

  1. Keep your headlights clear with Car Wax - Just wipe a thin layer of  car wax on your headlights with a soft cloth.  There are water repellents that will prevent the road spray from sticking to your lights.  Do this every 6 weeks.
  2. Windshield Wiper Care - wipe your wipers with a cloth saturated in rubbing alcohol.  This will prevent streaks on your wipers as well as that annoying squeaky sound.
  3. Get rid of the ice!!  Fill a spray bottle wiht 3 parts vinegar and one part water.  Spray it on all the windows at night.  The next morning they will be clear of ice and save you alot of trouble the next morning.
  4. Cooking spray to prevent Freezing doors -  The rain and snow is just around the corner - Use cooking spray and spray it on the rubber seals and then rub it in with a paper towel.  The cooking spray will prevent water from melting on the rubber and will prevent freezing doors.
  5. Get Rid of the Fog - Use shaving cream on the inside of your windshield - wipe it off with paper towels.  We are not sure Why it works - but it does!!
  6.  Add some weight to your car - In the winter months, you need the additional traction while driving in the snow and ice.  Put a bag or two of cat littler in your trunk.
  7. Check your spare tire - Make sure you spare tire has adequate tire pressure just in case the cold temperatures have caused your tires to leak.
We hope you will find the tips to be helpful.  Be sure to take extra caution while driving and make sure your vehicle is in the best condition possible to handle the winter weather.  If you are concerned about your vehicles performance this winter, be sure to contact one of our Certified Service Technician to do a full inspection of your vehicle.  Give us a call at 573-317-4195.
