8 Winter Car Care Tips

Winter weather can really takes it's toll on our vehicles - regular maintenance is the key to extending the life of your vehicle.  Caring for your car during the winter doesn't have to be expensive. Here are 8 frugal tips to keep you on the road this winter.
  1. Keep your headlights clear with car wax. Wipe car wax on your headlights every 6 weeks to prevent road spray from accumulating on your lights.  
  2. Get rid of the Squeak and Streak with rubbing alcohol.  Wipe your wipers with a cloth saturated with rubbing alcohol. This trick can give you near perfect silence & clarity.
  3. Vinegar to Prevent Ice!!  Simply fill a spray bottle with three parts vinegar to one part water & spritz it on all your windows at night. The next morning they will be ice free! clear of icy mess and you can sleep in an extra five minutes! 
  4. Don't get shut out, use cooking spray! Prevent car doors from freezing shut  by spraying the rubber seals around  the car doors and rub it with a paper cloth.  The cooking spray prevents water from melting into the rubber!
  5. Fog-proof your windshield with shaving cream.  Spray some shaving cream on the inside of your windshield & wipe if off with paper towels to avoid fogging up.
  6. Weigh your car down for added traction.  Just put a bag or two of cat litter in the truck (which also doubles for helping you get out if the car is buried in snow!). 
  7. Check your spare tire to make sure it has adequate tire pressure. 
  8. Check your fluid levels.  With the cold weather upon us, it's important to make sure your fluid levels are at their proper levels.
