8 Games To Play On Your Thanksgiving Road Trip

It's Thanksgiving week, which means more people will be on the road between now and Sunday than almost any other time of the year. All across the country, friends and family are gathering to celebrate Thanksgiving with their loved ones. The long hours on the road can get a little tedious, but not if you have something to keep your mind occupied! These fun road trip games friends at the Lake of the Ozarks' best car dealership will help your drive go by faster.

Favorite Family Road Trip Games

1. The Alphabet Game
There's a reason this game is such a classic! Choose a category, such as an animals or foods, and then take turns coming up with words in that category that start with each letter of the alphabet. Keep going until you can't think of anything else.

2. The Other Alphabet Game
The object of this game is to find all the letters in the alphabet on license plates, road signs, billboards, trucks, and anything else you pass. The trick is that you can only use the letters you spot in alphabetical order. If you're in the mood for a competition, have everyone find their own alphabet. For a more collaborative option, let the letters you spot count for everyone else.

3. Map Quest
If you're traveling a great distance, buy a paper map and let your kids track your travels using stickers and/or highlighters. This is a great way to get them more involved in the road trip - and boost their geography skills at the same time!

4. Family Sing-Along
Let's be honest - it's hard to go wrong with a sing-along! Choose from any of your favorites children's songs like "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," "Old MacDonald," and "B-I-N-G-O." Have a blast!

5. Story Time
Everyone loves a good story! Bring along some of your favorite books and have Mom, Dad, or one of the older children read aloud to the family. If no one wants to read aloud, you can listen to an audiobook together instead. Most libraries offer a great selection of free audiobooks.

6. Group Story-Telling
When you're done listening to a story together, why not try making up of a story of your own? Ask each family member to make up a line for your story, and the tale will grow as you take turns. For an added challenge, encourage everyone to rhyme as much as possible.

7. Find A Word
Looking for other opportunities to enhance your children's verbal skills? Ask them to write down words they see out the window (on billboards, signs, stores, etc). When they have built a nice list, have them try to turn the words on their list into a story or a poem.

8. The License Plate Game
There are a few different variations of this game, but one of our favorites is to have everyone in the car write down the states from the license plates they see on passing cars. The winner is the person who reports the most states. Ready, set, go!
