7 Tricks To Get Your Car Ready For Spring

The first day of spring is only a few weeks away! The warmer temperatures will be a welcome relief for many of us, but they also mean that it's time to take care of some standard vehicle maintenance. In order to keep our cars in good condition, it's important to take care of seasonal maintenance as it arises. Here are a few tips to prepare your car for spring, courtesy of the team at our car dealership in Camdenton MO.

1. Take Your Car Through A Car Wash
It may still be a little too chilly to wash your car at home, but it's still important to wash your car. Salt, sand, and general winter grime has been building up on your paint over the last few months, and it can damage the surface if left to its own devices. Wash your car now so that it can enjoy a fresh start to the new season.

2. Clean The Underside Of Your Car
Winter grime affects more than just the sides of your vehicle - it also accumulates on the underside of your car. The salt can actually eat away at the undercarriage, so it's important that you get it cleaned. Go through a car wash that sprays the underside, or use a garden hose or sprinkler to hose it off.

3. Check Your Wiper Blades
After fighting off the snow, sleet, and ice that winter brings, your windshield wipers may not be in the best condition. Heavy spring rains are bound to hit at some point, and you'll need your wipers to be in good shape. Now is a good time to check your wipers to see if they need to be replaced.

4. Clean The Cabin
Take a look around the inside of your car. If you're like many drivers, you'll probably notice that a lot of gravel, dirt, and other debris has gathered in the floorboards. Don't spend all your spring cleaning energy on your home; now is a great time to vacuum your vehicle so it looks great, too.

5. Check Your Breaks
Many people may not realize this, but winter grime can take a toll on your breaks. Break pads require clean, lubricated metal frames to work correctly, and salt can actually corrode these surfaces. The next time you get your tires rotated, consider getting your breaks checked at the same time.

6. Change Your Oil
For most drivers, the need for an oil change occurs approximately every 3-4 months, which corresponds nicely with the changing seasons. Take this opportunity to get your oil changed and have your other fluid levels checked, such as your windshield wiper fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, and coolant.

7. Check Your Tire Pressure
We would be remiss if we didn't include a note about checking your tire pressure, although you should do this more frequently than just the beginning of every season. Tire pressure can change drastically as the temperature fluctuates, so it's important to make sure yours stays at a good level.
