Protect Your Car This Winter

The winter weather can be tough on our cars. If you have recently purchased a new vehicle at the Lake of the Ozarks, you will want to make sure you protect it during the cold season. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to ensure your car last all season long. Your Camdenton car dealership doesn't want you to have any issues these next couple of months, so here are a few things you can do to protect your investment.

Lights

During the winter, the sun sets earlier in the day, which means there's less daylight, especially on the commute home from work. Because of this, you'll want to make sure all your vehicle's lights are in tip-top shape and provide the brightest possible illumination they can. If a bulb is burnt out, make sure you fix it as soon as possible. In addition, after it snows, it's important to make sure you clean any exterior lights before you drive anywhere. If your headlights are foggy or yellow, it may be a good idea to replace them.

Battery

Cold weather is hard on a battery, which could cause it to be more difficult for it to operate properly compared to warmer weather. As a result, a battery that is weak during the summer could turn into a dead battery during the winter. It is best to perform a test on your battery to make sure it is in good working order, and replace it if necessary, so you're not left stranded in a cold parking lot with a car that won't start.

Check Fluids

It's important to make sure your vehicle has enough coolant/antifreeze, as it keeps the engine from freezing during the colder months. In addition, it is also a good idea to check your engine oil, as cold weather is hard on it and makes it thick, which makes it harder for the engine to turn over. When checking these items, make sure there are no leaks in the lines. It is also important to make sure that your gas tank is kept full as well as windshield washer fluid. It is important to keep your gas tank full to prevent accumulated water from freezing inside the fuel pump. Making sure you have enough windshield washer fluid is important, as messy road debris from a snowstorm can sometimes make it hard to see where you are going.

Tires

It's important to keep track of your tire pressure during colder months, especially during significant temperature changes. Tire pressure can drop along with the air temperature. Driving around with low tire pressure could mean premature tire wear or potential tread separation, which could cause a major accident. In addition, your vehicle doesn't handle as well with underinflated tires.

The winter weather can be tough on our vehicles, so it is important to know how to protect them properly when the temperatures start to drop.
