Stay Safe On The Road This Holiday Weekend

Fourth of July is just around the corner, and the roads will be more busy with the holiday traffic throughout the weekend. With so many people on the road, it's more important than ever to be proactive and exercise all of your defensive driving skills. To help you stay safe on the road this weekend, Hulett Chevrolet-Buick-GMC have a few driving tips.

Driver's Seat Is A Distraction-Free Zone

Drivers are subject to countless distraction on the road, especially when traveling with children or pets. Whether the radio station needs to be changed, the children needs snack or the destination needs to be changed in the GPS, the list of distractions can go on and on. To avoid being a distracted driver, designate a co-pilot to handle any of these task that may arise during your trip.

Leave Plenty Of Space

Tailgating is one of the worst traits a driver can exhibit on the road. Not only is it annoying for the driver in front, it's also very dangerous for all the vehicles behind you. If you're driving too closely to the car in front of you, you may not have enough time to stop before rear-ending the car if they have to stop suddenly.

Put The Phone Down

There is nothing more dangerous than staring at your phone while driving. If your phone alerts you of a new text or social media notification while you're in the driver seat, it could be tempting to check it. Unfortunately, it only takes an instant for something bad to happen. Resist the temptation and put your phone out of reach while driving. If you're using your phone as GPS, you'll need to have it close enough to be able to see the map. However, it may be best to invest in a phone holder that will allow you to use the GPS hands free.

Pull Over When Feeling Tired

If you're traveling a long ways this holiday weekend, it's important to remember to know when it's time to get out of the drivers seat. There are many different dangers that lurk around you if you decide to drive drowsy. If you begin to feel tired, it's best to pull over and let someone else drive if possible, or get a room and catch some Z's.

Don't Forget To Relax & Have Fun

Driving during busy holiday weekends can be stressful. Frustration can lead to bad decisions and risky behavior behind the wheel. However, with the right attitude and some pre-planning, it can be more enjoyable.
