If you're planning a road trip this summer, Hulett Chevrolet-Buick-GMC is here to help you be prepared for whatever comes your way. Before You Leave

Before you take off on your summer road trip, it's a good idea to ensure your vehicle is ready for the long drive. The last thing you want is for something to go wrong while you're out on the open road. Not only will it put a massive damper on your trip, but it's also dangerous. Here are a few things you can do to help get your vehicle ready for your long trip.

Get it serviced. While this is an extra cost, it could potentially help you save a fortune in the long run. Plus, it could help you prevent breaking down while on the road.

Check the battery. Ensure it is fully charged and working properly and that the terminals are clean.

Check the tires. Make sure the tires have enough tread and pressure. Don't forget to check the spare as well!

Check the fluids. Check that the engine oil. coolant, transmission, brake and power steering are all topped off and changed if needed.

Clean the windshield. During the summer, you could run into thunderstorms on your trip. Make sure you'll be able to see well by making sure the windshield is cleaned. It's also a good idea to change out the windshield wipers.

Ensure all the lights work. It's important to check all lights on your vehicle to ensure they're properly working.

During Your Trip

Continually check the tires. During your trip, it's a good idea to check your tires a few times to make sure your tires are holding air properly and that there is nothing wrong or you didn’t run over anything that could cause a leak.

Regularly check the oil. In addition to checking your tires, make sure to check the oil when you fill up on gas. This will make sure your vehicle is not burning too much oil.

Gas up often. While you may want to wait as long as possible before filling up your car, it's a good idea to fill up often while on long trips. Your car runs better when it's over a tank full rather than when it's running on empty. So, don't push it when it comes to filling up.

Fuel up on snacks. It’s important to make sure your car’s gas tank is full, but it’s also important to make sure you have enough fuel. Ensure you are eating enough and getting a good night’s rest before hitting the road.

When You Get Home

Check your vehicle. When you get home, give your car a good once over. Make sure all the fluids are topped off, that the lights are still working and that it's running properly.

Clean it out. After spending a lot of time on the road, it's a good idea to give your car a good cleaning. Clean both the inside and the outside of your vehicle.
