Preparing Your Car For Autumn

These cloudy and rainy days have everyone wanting to pull out their sweaters, light the bonfire, and pour a warm drink! The fall season is right around the corner, and while we can't wait for it to get here, your car might not be quite as excited. Every season brings a change in weather, and that means a change in driving conditions. There are a few things you can do to help make the transition more smooth, and obviously, the team at Hulett is here to help!

Your Autumn Vehicle Checklist

Here are some practical tips for getting your car ready for fall!

Brakes & Tires

The weather that is often associated with fall and winter seasons tend to mean that your stopping power isn't as strong. From rainy days to wintery nights, your brakes and tires will need to be up to the task of stopping in all types of seasons. You'll also want to make sure that the tire pressure is at the right level, and you'll want to keep it there through the season.

Look at the Lights

It's going to be getting darker earlier, and you'll be spending more time driving in the evening hours. Because of this, you'll want to make sure your lights are in good working order. From the headlights to the taillights, you'll want to inspect them all and make sure they are clean.

Replace the Wiper Blades

Wiper blades are supposed to clear your windshield (duh ... ). But cracked or worn blades won't do the job adequately. Check to make sure that the rubber is flexible so that the wiper blades can clear the glass of water.

Check the Heater/Defroster

The temps may not be cold enough yet to need your heater, but you may need your defroster! Driving with fogged windows it dangerous, so make sure that both the front and rear window defrosters are working properly.

Have the Battery Inspected

A fully charged battery is important when you're out in cooler temps. You can have your battery inspected easily by a trained technician and if it's necessary to replace it, we can do that as well.

Refill the Cooling System

It's recommended to check the coolant level in the overflow tank when your engine is cold. If the level is low, add 50/50 solution of water and coolant to allow proper antifreeze capability.

Inspect Fluid Levels

From the washer fluid to the transmission fluid, there are plenty of fluids in your car that needs to be topped off on a routine basis.

Get a Carwash

Does it sound crazy to get your car clean before it's just going to get dirty again from muddy weather and salted roads? An extra special wash can actually help you spot any potential problems with your car that you may not notice otherwise.
