Safe Driving Tips For Seasonal & Inclement Weather

Every season brings its own unique set of driving situations. Fall and winter bring inclement weather, especially for our curvy and hilly lake roads. Spring and summer bring the vacation crowd, which adds more people to the roadways and increases traffic. No matter what the season, Hullet Chevrolet Buick and GMC is here to make sure that you stay safe on the roadways, and keep your vehicle in tip-top condition. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you navigate the roads this fall!

Be Aware of Leaves

They may look harmless enough but in large quantities, and when they are wet, they are slippery as ice. Drive slowly if you come to a place in the road that is covered with leaves. If you do find yourself on leave, be careful of hard braking.

Avoid the Sun Glare

Through the fall, as the lighting changes, you may notice some hard glares that shine through your windows on your drive to and from work. Be prepared for it by having a good pair of sunglasses in the car and by keeping your windshield clean.

Use Rain Smarts

The rain tends to fall more during spring and fall, so as the fall weather comes, be aware of wet roads and damp driving conditions. Another thing to be aware of is fog. The Lake valleys and hills make for perfect spots for high-density fog to accumulate. If the weather is inclined towards fog, keep your lights on, and be aware of your speed as you navigate up and down hills.

Watch for Deer

The Autumn season is the beginning of deer breeding season. They’ll be much more active during this time of year because of it. Deer season also makes up much of Fall. Not only will the deer be moving because of breeding, but because of the hunter’s in the woods. Be extra careful while driving. Keep your lights on when it starts to get dark and be very watchful when driving near the woods.

Is Your Vehicle Ready?

Make sure that your vehicle is ready to take on the task of driving in the fall conditions:

Check your tire pressure - you can lose 1 to 2 pounds of pressure for every 10-degree temperature drop.
Replace your wipers - a really clean window can help you see when there’s a glare.
Adjust your lights - if your headlights seem too dim, ask your Lake of the Ozarks mechanic to make sure they’re aligned properly.
