7 Tips to Prepare Your Ride for Winter

Winter will be here before we know it! It's important to prepare your vehicle in mid-Missouri for the unknown weather that may be headed our way. With the unpredictable weather, it's best to prepare your ride now and be ready when winter weather strikes. Our Lake of the Ozarks car dealership is here for all of your vehicle maintenance needs! Take a look below for some quick tips on how to better prep your vehicle for the winter that will be here before we know it!

1. Replace Wiper Blades

Your windshield wiper blades are imperative for cleaning your windshield this winter. As the road grime gets kicked up on your windshield, it's important to be able to clean it off efficiently. This can not only help you see better, but it creates safer driving conditions for all.

2. Check Brakes

It's a good idea to have your brakes checked. If your brakes are wearing down, it's best to replace them soon. Ensure your brake pads are in good condition to stop quicker, if needed. You don't want to find out your brakes aren't working well when you need them most!

3. Look Over Tires

Take a look at your tires and ensure the tread is deep enough. It's best to have over 4/32 of an inch tread on your tires, especially when going into the winter season. Damp and even slick roads can be a nightmare to navigate if your tires don't have a good grip on the pavement.

4. Test Battery

Have your battery tested before the harsh cold of winter hits our area. A battery that sits too long or gets very cold can have a hard time starting. You don't want to be stranded with a vehicle that won't start this winter. Test your battery to ensure there is an adequate charge in it still. If it's getting low, it may be time to replace it before winter.

5. Change Oil

It's always a good idea to have fresh oil in your vehicle before winter hits. Especially with the holidays season upon us, many families are getting ready for holiday road trips. You'll want fresh oil in your vehicle to keep all motor parts properly lubricated and working as they should.

6. Fill All Fluids

Take time to check all fluids in your vehicle. It's important that your fluids are full - especially this time of year. Low fluids can more easily freeze with the low temperatures. You'll also want to make sure your windshield wiper fluid is filled - you don't want to run out when you need to clear winter debris from your windshield!

7. Crank the Heat

Test out the heat in your vehicle before you really need it. If it doesn't seem to be getting as warm as it should, you may need to have it looked at. Don't wait until you need it to test it out! Also make sure your defroster is working properly. This feature comes in very handy on a cold morning to clear frost off the front and rear windshield!
