Here at Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC, we've decided to answer some top questions about auto sales & service. Check out our FAQ below!

Hello! I'm Jason Hulett: Owner of Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC, 2014 Time Dealer of the Year, previous Chairman of the Missouri Auto Dealer's Association, and 3rd a generation car dealer.

FAQ #1 - Since you are selling for GM what do you think of GM's cuts in the sedan lineup?
GM is seeing demand for sedans drop steadily the past few years. This is just a necessary proactive move to stay ahead of the market changes.

FAQ #2 - I'm looking at buying a truck. What add-ons are worth it and what add-ons are just for the dealership to make money. For example; bed liner, window tint, tow package, upgraded headlights, upgraded bumpers - to name a few.
It depends on how you plan to use your truck. Bed liners are a great way to protect your bed. 6" oval steps help to get into the taller vehicle. Not sure there's a right or wrong answer here. Just depends on your preference.

FAQ 3# - My boyfriend just got hired as a car salesman for the first time. Any advice/personal stories are welcome. How can I help him;  sales techniques, budget/salary management, work politics.
First, be honest and upfront with clients. Remember to always make sure the customer comes first. Treat them like you would want to be treated and get involved in your community. The money will take care of itself if you keep those things in mind.

FAQ #4 - Is it a bad idea to buy a manual car without knowing how to drive one? I'm looking to upgrade to something a bit more fuel efficient to make my commute less costly.
Manual transmissions are relatively easy to learn to drive. However, you need to decide if having your hands occupied the entire time is right for you. (Hard to take a drink of coffee when shifting!) There are a ton of cars, like the Chevy Sonic & Spark that get amazing fuel mileage in an automatic transmission, if you are hesitant of learning a manual transmission.

FAQ #5 - What really happens when a salesperson goes to talk to the manager after you propose an offer?
They will discuss the offer and check the numbers to see if a deal can be made. They are there to sell cars and will do everything they can to make a fair deal for all parties.

FAQ #6 - I recently emailed a dealer about a vehicle I found online. The vehicle appears nearly new but has an accident reported that shows on AutoCheck. The dealer said it was minor damage to the hood and headlight. The dealer performed repairs in house. They said I can see the repair list, only if I make the drive (about 1 hour) to the dealership. If the report shows more than what I deem "minor", I wouldn't be interested and obviously don't want to waste anyone's time.
The dealership should show you the report before you make the drive. Seems a bit shady that they won't just email you the damage report. I would insist on this before making the drive.

FAQ #7 - My AutoCheck says "title repossessed" in another state. Is that a red flag?
Most of the time, yes. My feelings on this is that if a person let a car get repossessed, they probably didn't take very good care of it. They were probably lax in maintenance, etc. I usually would steer clear of these vehicles.

FAQ #8 - Are there any offers that are really worth it at the finance desk? I always hear people say "just say no" to everything at the finance desk, but are there offers truly worth it on a car?
Absolutely. Vehicles now have over 100 computers in them. Most parts are very expensive. A proper extended warranty would cover you in the event of an expensive part failure. If you are upside down in your car, gap insurance is also a "must". It protects you if you total your car and still owe a lot of money on it by paying it off in full.
