Back to School with Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC

Can you believe summer is coming to an end already? In no time at all, kids will be headed back to school and college all around Lake of the Ozarks. Is your child’s car ready for the miles and wear and tear your teenager will put it through?  Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC has put together a list of items for you to check over to make sure your child will head back to school in a safe car.

Check all Fluids

There are six fluids you should keep an eye on under your hood. Engine oil, coolant or antifreeze, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid. Before sending your child off check these fluid levels. If the washer fluid is low, go ahead and top it off. If any other fluids are low, discolored or smell burnt, you should have it looked at by a professional at our Certified Service Department in Camdenton, MO.

Change Your Oil

Your engine needs oil to keep the internal parts lubricated. Based on your cars make, model and age your oil should be changed frequently. (Check your cars owner’s manual on the suggested oil change interval.) Before school gets started, go ahead and get the oil changed at Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC.

Check Tire Tread Depth, Wear, and Pressure

Tires are the only thing between you and the road. Take the time to look at the tires wear pattern and tread depth. An uneven wear pattern is a sign of the car’s alignment being off, which can lead to premature tire wear and suspension parts. All tires have markers in the tread to let you know how close the tire is to reaching its life expectancy. Also, look inside the driver’s door jamb for the label with the proper tire pressures. Check and fill it, if needed. The service department at Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC has a great selection of tires for all makes and models.

Check Lights and Turn Signals

Grab a helper and hit the lights! Have your helper look for the lights as you press the brake pedal, engage turn signals, and check the high beams.

Check Battery

Check the battery terminals and cables for corrosion -- clean them if needed. If you notice any battery issues, Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC can test your car's battery and replace it for you. Don’t let a dead battery leave your child stranded.

Check the Air Filter

The engines air filter should be changed periodically. Typically, these are easy to get to and inspect. If the air filter is dirty it could be robbing the car of performance and fuel economy. If the filter needs replaced, our Parts Department can fix you up.

Plan for Emergencies

Sit down with your child before school gets started and come up with a plan for emergencies. Make sure they have a current copy of insurance in the car and what they need to do in case of an accident. A first aid kit in the truck is also a great idea.

Prepare for a safe school year by using this list of items to check. Have your child help you as you go through this list so they can learn how to do this for themselves in the future.
