Regular Vehicle Maintenance to Keep Your Ride Running Smooth

Like most of us, you probably depend on your vehicle every day- whether it be your daily commute to school or work, or a trip to the store, we’re always going somewhere.  Having regular maintenance performed will ensure your vehicle keeps on working like you expect, and depend on. Our vehicle service department at the Lake of the Ozarks knows how important it is to keep your vehicle running at its best. Read on to find out about a few of the regular maintenance checks you should have performed on your car, truck, or SUV and how Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC can help!

Check & Change Your Oil Regularly

This is a big one.  Checking your oil and ensuring it has the proper level is imperative to how well your engine is performing.  Oil keeps your engine lubricated and reduces friction on the moving components.  Get in the habit of checking on a regular basis (when you stop to fill up at the gas station).  Have the oil flushed & filter changed regularly, too.  Dirty oil can gumm up engines and affect performance.  Most vehicles recommend changing the oil every 5,000 – 7,000 miles.

Look Over Windshield Wipers

This is one that gets overlooked quite a bit.  Whether it’s a wintery mix or April showers in the forecast, it’s a good idea to check your windshield wipers before it hits!  Look at the rubber blade (where the wiper meets the window) and check for signs of wear like cracks, holes, and deterioration. Worn or damaged wipers can create streaks across your windshield, making it harder to see through. Replacing your windshield wipers is an easy and inexpensive vehicle maintenance task that can make driving in inclement weather much easier.

Tires, Tires, Tires

Engine maintenance keeps your car running well, but what about making sure it handles well?   While the tire pressure should be checked regularly, it's especially important with the change of seasons. Going from cold weather to hot weather can affect your tire pressure, which can lead to poor handling.  If you do need to add some air, make sure not to overinflate your tires, which can be just as dangerous and hard to control as an underinflated tire.  Get in the habit of checking the tread on your tires, too.  Remember- they are your only points of contact with the road, so be sure you have enough tread to hang on!

Clean Your Ride

Keeping your vehicle exterior clean will not only make your car look great, it can keep you safe as well. Winter road treatments get splashed and sprayed creating a layer of grime on your vehicle.  This not only damages paint over time, but can make headlights and turn signals harder for other drivers to see. Try to keep your vehicle exterior as clean as possible in the winter.  Consider a quick stop at the car wash…. but only when the temps are above freezing!

And when in doubt, let the professionals handle your vehicle maintenance near the Lake of the Ozarks. Schedule an appointment with our certified technicians at Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC in Camdenton. We look forward to getting you on the road with confidence!
