7 Important Vehicle Maintenance Checks to Perform this Fall

Fall is a busy season! Whether it's road trips to catch out the beautiful fall foliage or running back and forth to kid's activities, you are likely putting some miles on your vehicle this time of year. With that extra use, there's probably some additional wear and tear happening to the moving parts of your ride. Our vehicle service department in Camdenton, MO is here with some helpful tips on ways you can be proactive with your vehicle repairs, rather than wait until something goes wrong and you need an emergency repair. See the tips below for ways you can better care for your vehicle this fall:

1) Charge Battery

The colder temps can cause batteries to quickly drain. Having a new battery or ensuring your current battery is fully charged can help reduce the chance of getting stranded somewhere with no way to start your vehicle. Especially if you park outside, it's important to check the life of your battery to make sure it'll start every time you need it to.

2) Inspect Air Filter

It's recommended to change your air filter once a year. If you haven't checked yours lately, now is a great time to look it over to ensure it is free of debris and other build up. A dirty air filter can cause problems for your vehicle and lead to anyone inside the vehicle breathing contaminated air.

3) Check Tire Tread

Ensure your tires have sufficient tread before your next road trip. A good amount of tread can help properly disperse water on the roadway when driving the rainy fall season. New tires now can also better prepare your vehicle for gripping pavement that may be snow covered -- that season will be here before we know it!

4) Change Spark Plugs

Spark plugs are what help ignite the air and fuel mixture which makes your vehicle engine produce power. Without these, your vehicle will have a tough time functioning like it should. Over time, these plugs can become corroded and stop working altogether. It's typically recommended to change them every 30,000 miles, but check your owner's manual for the specific amount for your vehicle to be sure.

5) Rotate Tires

Rotating your tires can help improve the life of your tires. When tires are rotated, they tend to even out any extra wear on a front or back set. Even tire wear can make your tires last longer and gives your vehicle a better grip on the road -- it's a win-win!

6) Replace Wiper Blades

Windshield wiper blades are made of rubber and that rubber material can get worn down over time. Dry blades can lead to cracks and even chunks missing, which then they won't properly clean your windshield when they are needed. Blades should be changed out two times a year.

7) Check Heating System

Before the bitter cold temps set in, ensure your heating system is working like it should. This will give you a chance to have your system looked at if it isn't functioning properly. Help you and your family stay warm in the vehicle this winter when you have your system maintenanced now.
