Is Your Car Ready For Winter?

The winter weather can be tough on our cars. If you have recently purchased a new or used vehicle from the best car dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks, you will want to make sure you protect it during the winter months. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to ensure your car will last all season long. Hulett Chevrolet-Buick-GMC doesn't want you to have any issues over the next couple of months, so here are a few things you can do to protect your investment.

Check Fluids

It's important to make sure your vehicle has enough coolant/antifreeze, as it keeps the engine from freezing during the colder months. It is also a good idea to check your engine oil. Cold weather is hard on the oil and can make it thick. If the oil becomes thick, it makes it harder for the engine to turn over. When checking these items, make sure there are no leaks in the lines. It is also important to make sure that your gas tank is kept full to prevent any accumulated water from freezing inside the fuel pump. You should also make sure the windshield washer fluid stays full. Making sure you have enough windshield washer fluid is important, as messy road debris from a snowstorm can sometimes make it hard to see where you are going.

Lights

During the winter, the sun sets earlier in the day, which means there's less daylight. It is usually dark when you make the commute home. Because of this, you'll want to make sure all your vehicle's lights are in great condition and provide the brightest possible illumination they can. If a bulb is burnt out, make sure you fix it as soon as possible. If it snows, it’s important to clean any exterior lights before you drive anywhere. If your headlights are foggy or yellow, it may be a good idea to replace them.

Battery

Cold weather is hard on a battery, and the cold weather could cause it to be more difficult for it to operate properly. As a result, a battery that is weak during the summer could turn into a dead battery during the winter. It is best to perform a test on your battery to make sure it is in good working order, and replace it if necessary. The last thing you want is to be left stranded in a cold parking lot with a car that won't start.

Tires

It's important to keep track of your tire pressure during colder months, especially during significant temperature changes. Tire pressure can drop along with the air temperature. Driving around with low tire pressure could mean premature tire wear or potential tread separation, which could cause a major accident. Not to mention, your vehicle doesn't handle as well with underinflated tires.

The winter weather can be tough on our vehicles, and Hulett Chevrolet-Buick-GMC knows that it is important to know how to protect them properly when the temperatures start to drop. If your car is needing any winter maintenance, bring it into the best car dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks. Our service department is AAA approved. To make your appointment, call 573-317-3232.
