7 Ways to Keep Your Vehicle Looking as Good as New

Everyone loves a shiny vehicle and that new car smell! Unfortunately, after some driving, that smell goes away and your car may begin to look not-so-new anymore. There's dirt on your windshield, mud on the tires, dog hair everywhere, empty drink bottles, and a fast food smell. Today's blog from your favorite auto dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks offers a few tips for keeping your car looking and smelling great!

Your Vehicle's Exterior

From the weather to bird poop, there are a variety of things that can affect how the exterior of your vehicle looks. Keep it looking shiny new with these regular maintenance tips:

1. Wash Your Vehicle Regularly - By washing your car once a week, you'll be able to maintain that new-car look much longer - and it'll be easier to clean. Washing your vehicle by hand, with a soft cloth and a mild soap is best. Be sure to thoroughly rinse the car once you've finished. Be wary of automatic car washes with the spinning brushes, as they could scratch your paint. Those brushes aren't necessarily clean, the detergents they use can be harsh and the water isn't necessarily clean either.

2. Watch Where You Park - Watching where you park can help you avoid unwanted dirt and debris on your car. If you have a garage, you've got plenty of protection. If you can't park your car under cover, try to avoid parking under trees, power lines or other things that birds perch on. Tree sap, bird droppings, etc. can quickly damage your paint.

3. Remove Deposits Immediately - If you do find bird poop, tree sap, etc. on your vehicle, it's important that you remove it as quickly as possible. Time is of the essence. The longer you leave it on, the harder it will be to remove. You may end up needing to scrub so hard that you scratch your paint during the process. Try removing deposits with water first, and if needed, you can use a weak detergent. Just be sure to rinse thoroughly after.

Your Vehicle's Interior

From animals to children, the inside of your vehicle can get messy, fast! Check out these detailing tips to keep the interior of your vehicle both looking and smelling great:

4. Take Your Trash With You - Every time you exit your car, take any garbage you've accumulated during your drive with you. Getting in this habit will help keep your car looking and smelling great. You don't want the smell of old fast food lingering in your vehicle. Consider keeping a small trash bag in your car to collect trash on longer trips.

5. Vacuum Your Vehicle Regularly - If you have a pet or live in a place with lots of sand, you'll want to make sure to vacuum your vehicle regularly. Make it a habit to vacuum every time you wash the exterior. Keeping up on removing crumbs, hair, dirt and other debris will make the job simpler and quicker. It can also cut down on bad odors.

6. Wipe Down Surface with a Cloth - Dust and other particles like to accumulate on your dashboard and other places throughout your car. Take a soft cloth and wipe down all surfaces to remove any dust. You can take a damp cloth or a disinfectant wipe for an even deeper clean. It's also a great idea to keep wipes in your car to easily clean up spills as they occur, before they have time to dry.

7. Remove Dried-On Liquids with a Toothbrush - When your cloth just won't cut it, grab an old toothbrush. From ketchup to soda spills, the toothbrush will help you loosen up those spills. Use a little baking soda mixed with water and scrub away until the spot is gone!
