Enjoying the Lake of the Ozarks’ Fall Foliage

The Lake of the Ozarks’ natural beauty is undeniable, and when the seasons change and the colors of fall start to come out, it's easy to take a step back and remember that we truly do live in one of the most beautiful places on earth!  As a matter of fact, Lake of the Ozarks was named the second-best place in the country to view fall foliage in 2018.  Traditionally, the peak of our fall colored landscape at the Lake occurs in mid to late October.  In this week’s blog, Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC will give you some places to go so you can get out and take in the beautiful colors of fall – right in our backyard!

 Bagnell Dam

A drive across the Bagnell Dam allows you to see miles of beautiful fall colors scattered along the Lake’s shoreline, as well as down the banks of the Osage River.  Go a bit further and take a short drive up to Ameren’s Scenic Overlook.  From the vantage point on their viewing deck, you can experience a bird’s eye view of both the dam and beautiful landscape.

Thunder Mountain Park

Have you ever seen the fall foliage from 80 feet above the ground?  One of the last fire towers remaining in the area is right here in Camdenton at Thunder Mountain Park. The observation tower is 100 feet tall with a viewing platform at 80 feet!  Come check it out and see the fall colors of the Lake like never before!

State Parks

Ha Ha Tonka State Park

Ha Ha Tonka is a must in the fall!  The castle ruins overlook some of the best views of the Lake of the Ozarks and some amazing wonders, too.  The park is home to many attractions including sinkholes, a huge natural bridge, bluffs, caves and Missouri’s 12th largest spring.  Head to Ha Ha Tonka and spend an afternoon walking the series of trails, enjoying one of many picnic sites, and taking in the scenic fall colors of the lake.

Lake of the Ozarks State Park

Just minutes away from Osage Beach is Lake of the Ozarks State Park.  Spreading over 17,000 acres and boasting miles of trails along the lakeshore and buff tops, the Lake of the Ozarks State Park is a great place to go and enjoy the fall landscape.

Jump in the Boat

We’ve all seen the changing scenery of the Lake from the road, but have you ever seen it by water??  Grab the family and take a ride in the boat this fall!  Pack a blanket for those cooler mornings and evenings, and hit the water to check out the gorgeous fall shoreline from a different view.  (There will be plenty of warm days to take a family boat ride, too!)

Hit the Golf Course

A great way to enjoy the lake’s fall foliage is by hitting the links! Take advantage of the cooler temps and smaller crowds and play a round of golf this fall.  All of the lake area’s 16 golf courses will provide some amazing autumn views, so take advantage of the season and get in some golf!

Hopefully, these ideas will get you excited to get out and take in the Lake of the Ozarks’ beautiful fall foliage this year.
