The March of Dimes Signature Chef event is Wednesday, November 6, 2013.  The 2012 Signature Chefs event raised more than $65,000 and attracted more than 400 enthusiastic guests and the 2013 event looks like it may be even better!!  This is the 15th year for the Signature Chefs Gourmet Dinner Auction & the 75th year for March of Dimes!   One of the favorite moments of the evening is when the Ambassador Family is recognized and has the opportunity to share their story.  This year the Ambassador Family is Robert, Kristine & Kensey Sills.  The Sills never anticipated a  pre-term labor, however, when Kristine felt contractions eight weeks early, they left for the hospital. Just before they were transported to Springfield by ambulance, the doctor made the decision to give Kristine steroid shots to help develop the baby’s lungs – a treatment developed by March of Dimes research.  At 11:22 a.m. on Nov. 23, 4lbs, 6oz, Kensey was born.  ...

This weekend our community has the opportunity to join efforts in ending cancer by participating in the Relay for Life Camden County ! These events bring people together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones and to fight back against the devastating disease.  The funds raised during the event go to the American Cancer Society to help fight the nation’s biggest health concern – cancer. Each team involved is asked to stay overnight and take turns walking or running the track.  The events are typically 24 hours long - cancer never sleeps so teams are encouraged have a least one participant on the track at all times. Due to an unexpected and life threatening illness, she had to undergo brain surgery this summer. This unexpected event caused Tori to incur large medical expenses and miss work for several weeks. It is time once again for the 2012 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout!  Every year the Shootout proves to be one of the BEST Lake of the Ozarks Charity Events and this year is set to be even better!! The event is great for the entire family - there will be plenty to see and do for people of all ages.   The Shootout is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the United States and it has recorded speeds of 208 mph in the past two years. Some of the boaters claim the speeds are even faster!!   The 2012 race will incorporate new radar guns to ensure the most accurate speeds recorded.   With over 100,000 people in attendance for the various events, the event was able to raise $70,570 to give to local charities.  Local charities included eight different Fire Departments in the area.
