Don't Fall Victim to Bad Dealership Practices

Not all dealerships are alike! Unfortunately, sometimes car dealerships and car salesmen get a bad reputation because of the bad behavior used at other dealerships across the state. While we don't entertain these bad practices at Hulett Chevrolet Buick GMC, we've seen a lot of dealers in the area advertise incentives under false pretenses.

Misleading Pricing 


Take this scenario for example. You reach out to a several different car dealerships in Missouri asking about a new car you're interested in. Those dealerships each come back to you with a certain price. While most of the prices are within a couple hundred dollars of each other, one of them stands out to you because it's $500 less than the best price. You decide that's just too good of a deal to pass up, so you drive a couple hours to go get that car for a great deal. You've been thinking about a new car for awhile now, so you've already got your own financing secured, you don't have a trade in to worry about, and you're prepared to get this car today!

After reaching the dealership, you find out that the price they gave you was based on a $1000 promotion or rebate that you don't even qualify for. Now you've driven hours to pick up a car that's actually $1000 more than the other dealerships. This is how they get you. They know that you've driven a long distance to get this car and you were prepared to make a purchase today. So what do they do?They negotiate the price with you and end up knocking off $500 to "make you happy." Now the price is essentially the same as the other dealerships, those that were a much shorter drive for you and gave you an honest price upfront.

By this point, you're tired, hungry, frustrated, etc. and all you want to do is drive home in that new car you told everyone you were going to pick up. You end up agreeing to the new deal. Unfortunately, you're rewarding their bad behavior and that dealership is going to keep doing that to other people.

Stop Rewarding Bad Behavior 


People need to stop rewarding these dealerships. All that does is reinforce bad behavior, perpetuate the cycle and hurt the honest, reputable dealerships out there. Instead of jumping on the first great deal you find, be sure to do some research. Find out what a fair price on a certain new vehicle at the Lake of the Ozarks is before you contact any dealership. Call your local dealership or dealerships that have the car you want, set an appointment, go in and make an educated offer on the car. You'll be surprised at how much easier it is to drive home in a new car when you choose to work with a great dealership.
