New Year's Resolutions For Every Car Owner

2015 has been a fun ride, but it's time for bigger and better things. As we cruise into 2016, Hulett Chevrolet-Buick-GMC wants to remind you to take good care of your vehicle so it will take good care of you. Here are a few New Year's Resolution ideas that, if followed, will keep your car in tip-top condition for all of your upcoming adventures in 2016.

New Year's Resolutions For Every Driver

1. I Will Check My Tire Pressure Every Month.
There are so many reasons to check your tire pressure regularly. Properly inflated tires increase your fuel economy, extend the life of your tires, improve your handling, and so much more. Tire pressure fluctuates as temperatures change and air gradually escapes, so it's important to check your air pressure frequently. Make it a point to do this at least once a month in 2016.

2. I Will Change My Oil And Check Fluid Levels At Least Every 5,000 Miles.
Keeping your fluid levels high is critical for maximizing your vehicle's lifespan and improving its safety. Every fluid serves a different purpose, so it's important to check all of your fluid levels regularly. We recommend checking fluid levels every time you change your oil, which should be every 3,000-5,000 miles (depending on your vehicle and the type of oil it requires).

3. I Will Wash My Car At Least Once A Month.
Keeping your car clean is important, and not only for aesthetic reasons. If left unattended, the dirt, pollen, road salt, and bird droppings that build up on your vehicle can eat through the paint and damage your vehicle's exterior. Either take your car through an automatic car wash or wash it at home at least once per month.

4. I Will Vacuum My Car Every 1-2 Months.
Keeping your car's interior clean is also important. Crumbs and dirt tend to accumulate quickly, along with various pieces of trash such as fast food bags and crumpled napkins. Vacuuming out your vehicle every month or every other month will prevent this mess from becoming too overwhelming, which will improve your satisfaction with your vehicle and help retain its trade-in value.

5. I Will Address Minor Issues Immediately.
Car repairs can be expensive, and it may be tempting to ignore seemingly minor issues so you can save yourself the hassle and the money required to make the repair. However, minor issues that are left unaddressed can quickly grow into larger issues that may be much more expensive (and time-consuming) to fix. In 2016, make it a point to address any minor issues as quickly as possible.

6. I Will Quit Idling.
It is not uncommon for car owners leave their vehicles on while in a stationary position (a practice called "idling"). However idling has several drawbacks, such as burning unnecessary gas (and money) and emitting unnecessary carbon dioxide. In fact, Green Living states that idling for just 10 minutes per day produces a quarter-ton of carbon dioxide emissions and wastes approximately $80 every year.

7. I Will Organize My Vehicle's Paperwork.
Cars come with a lot of papers, all of which you need to be able to access at a moment's notice. You never know when you may be required to locate your vehicle's title or produce proof of insurance. This year, make it a point to organize your vehicle's documents so you know exactly where everything is located. You will be glad you did!
