5 Road Trip Games To Survive Your Holiday Trip
Christmas falls on Sunday this year and with the long weekend, many people will be traveling to visit friends and family to celebrate the holiday with their loved ones. If you are venturing this weekend, the long hours on the road can get a little tedious, but it doesn't have to be if you have something to keep your mind occupied! These fun road trip games brought to you by your friends at the Lake of the Ozarks best car dealership will hopefully help your drive go by a little faster.
1. The Alphabet Game
This game could be played in teams or individually. You can use anything outside of the car, such as billboards, road signs or shop signs - any reading material as long as you can find it on your side of the car. You'll be looking for every letter of the alphabet in order. The letter can be located anywhere in the word.
Example - The Lake of the Ozarks sign - There's your "A".
2. License Plates
There are many different games you can play using license plates, depending on the age of your kids. Young kids can call out letters in alphabetical order and the first one to Z wins! Another one using the alphabet could be finding doubles or triples of letters or numbers in license plates. The one who has the most collected at the end of the day or trip wins. You can make it tougher by going in alphabetical order. Another game for little kids could be building words or phrases using the letter sequence in the plates. Older kids could find out of state plates and whoever finds a state that's the farthest from the state you're in wins.
Letter sequence example - A Plate with the letters E, F and T could be the word effort or the phrase "Ed's Favorite Taco's".
3. MapQuest
If you are traveling a long distance this holiday season, buy a paper map and let your kids track your travels using stickers and/or highlighters. This is a great way to get them more involved in your travels and boost their geography skills at the same time.
4. Name That Location
For this road trip game, choose countries, cities or states - or if you want to get creative you can also include rivers, lake or capitals. Pick a theme and the first person picks a location and the next player has to pick another location that begins with the last letter of the previous players previous location.
Example - The theme is states. The first player picks Missouri, so the next would have to start with "I", so the next state could be Indiana. The "A" could be Alaska.
5. Name That Tune
Choose a theme, such as show tunes, movie or TV theme songs. The first person to go will hum or whistle a song from the current theme. Everyone guesses until someone gets it. The winner gets to the be the singer for the next round. Whoever has the most right guesses wins!
