6 Simple Summer Vehicle Maintenance Tips

While most people will say that the winter months can really take a toll on your vehicle, so can the summer heat. Today's blog from the best car dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks offers some simple summer vehicle maintenance tips for you to keep in mind.

1. Check the Coolant Levels.

During the summer heat, it's important to keep your vehicle cool. It's much easier for your vehicle to overheat this time of year. Be sure to check the coolant levels regularly. In addition, consider inspecting the state of the hoses and the coolant reservoir. Keep an eye out for any leaks, especially at connection sites. Topping off your coolant and other fluids at the beginning of summer can help keep your vehicle from overheating.

2. Have Your AC Serviced.

There's nothing worse than having your vehicle's AC system go out on a hot summer day. Ensure that your system is in tip-top shape by having it serviced. Make sure your air filter is clean and doesn't need replaced. Also check for any refrigerant leaks. Many modern cars also have pollen filters or cabin filtration systems that you'll want to take a look at as well.

3. Check Your Tires.

While the tire pressure should be checked regularly throughout the year, it's especially important with the change of seasons. Going from cold weather to hot weather can affect your tire pressure. Since summer is a time for vacations and road trips, you'll want to inspect your tires before hitting the road. Learn more in our recent blog titled, "Protect Your Tires This Summer."

4. Examine Your Windshield Wipers.

Is your vehicle ready for summer storms? Now's a great time to inspect your windshield wipers to ensure they are in good working condition. Worn wipers will create streaks across your windshield that make it harder to see through. Replacing your windshield wipers is an easy and inexpensive vehicle maintenance task that can make summer driving much easier.

5. Check Your Oil.

While it's important to check your oil throughout the year, it's especially important that your vehicle has enough oil during the summer months. Oil keeps your engine lubricated, which reduces friction, and therefore heat buildup, under your hood. During the summer your engine is more likely to overheat, so you want to ensure its lubricated well.

6. Wash Your Vehicle.

When the sun is beaming down on a dirty windshield, it can create a glare that makes it difficult to see the road ahead of you. Keeping your vehicle exterior clean will not just make your car look great, it can keep you safe as well. A clean vehicle also protects the paint from scratches and damage due to dirt and debris that build up on your vehicle when it's not washed regularly. Dirt and debris will scratch away at your top coat, the one that protects your vehicle from the sun's rays.
