7 Warning Signs Your Brakes Need Inspected

The brakes on your vehicle ensure safe operation and vehicle control. While an annual brake inspection is always a good idea, don't ignore signs that your brakes need attention. Today's blog from your favorite car dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks discusses some of the warning signs that your brakes may need maintenance. Knowing what to look for will help keep you and everyone else on the roads safe.

Warning Signs

If you notice any of the following warning signs on your vehicle, be sure to schedule a brake inspection as soon as possible.

1. Noises - Do you hear screeching, grinding or clicking noises when applying the brakes?

2. Pulling - Does your vehicle pull to one side while braking?

3. Low Pedal - Does the brake pedal nearly touch the floor before engaging?

4. Hard Pedal - Do you have to apply extreme pressure to the pedal before the brakes engage?

5. Grabbing - Do the brakes grab at the slightest touch to the pedal?

6. Vibration - Do you notice brake pedal vibrations or pulses, even under normal braking conditions?

7. Light - Is your brake light illuminated on your vehicle's dashboard?

Replacing Your Brake Pads

Brakes are a normal wear item on your vehicle, meaning that they will eventually need to be replaced. Depending on the way you drive, operating conditions, etc., your brake pads may need replaced sooner than others. Be sure to avoid letting your brake pads get worn down to a thickness less than 3 millimeters, as that can mean expensive repairs or replacement of the rotor or drum.

If you suspect any problems with your brakes, you should have them checked out immediately by a professional at our Lake of the Ozarks auto dealership's service department. Our GM Certified Service department has the expertise to perform a wide range of GM services. From routine maintenance to critical repairs, we take the stress out of servicing your vehicle at the Lake of the Ozarks.
